Typesphere: Celebrating Innovation in Graphic Design with the Society of Typographic Arts' Top 100

Drawing inspiration from the delicately carved eggs of Piotr Brockenheim and the elegance of Swiss typographic style, Typesphere showcases the harmonious fusion of form, function, and typography.

I am thrilled to announce that Typesphere, an innovative and visually captivating typographic project, has been named one of the Society of Typographic Arts' Top 100 examples of graphic design. This prestigious recognition highlights the exceptional craftsmanship and artistic vision behind Typesphere, which consists of a 3D-printed sphere and a thoughtfully designed container. Drawing inspiration from the delicately carved eggs of Piotr Brockenheim and the elegance of Swiss typographic style, Typesphere showcases the harmonious fusion of form, function, and typography.

Exploring the Inspiration

The first component of Typesphere, the 3D-printed sphere, takes inspiration from the intricately carved eggs of artist Piotr Brockenheim. These delicate and meticulously crafted objects served as a visual muse for the project. To capture their aesthetic essence, a paragraph of type centered around the Swiss typographic style was transformed into a spiral and affixed to the spherical form. The result was a delicate yet sturdy structure that beautifully conveyed the intricate interplay between typography and form.

Innovative Packaging Design

Complementing the 3D-printed sphere, the packaging design of Typesphere draws inspiration from traditional Japanese egg containers. These containers not only encase the egg but also reveal its form through simple yet elegant wrapping techniques. By combining this concept with the geometric heritage of Swiss typography, Typesphere's packaging features a single line that gracefully wraps around the sphere. Alternating triangles create a flat base, allowing the sphere to rest securely while subtly tilting one face upwards. The packaging serves as a canvas for sharing information about the contents of the 3D-printed sphere, and the typography follows the unexpected rhythm of the form, enhancing its uniqueness and design aesthetic.
